Fresh fears as California wildfires spread shuttering 405 freeway

As the largest of the wildfires continues to expand, Californians are facing new dangers from the destructive burns.

At least 11 people have already lost their lives as a result of the calamity, which has also devastated over 10,000 buildings.

As the flames start to spread into the renowned areas of Brentwood and Mandeville Canyon, the Palisades fire in Los Angeles has already partially closed the 405 freeway.

At least six large fires were still burning in Los Angeles County on Thursday night, with the majority just about contained.

In light of the extent of the destruction and claims that fire hydrants in some of the most severely affected regions ran out, residents have begun to demand answers from government.

The official death toll has risen to 11 and is predicted to grow.

On Friday night, the official death toll from the wildfires in Los Angeles increased to 11.

According to the LA county medical examiner's office, the Palisades fire was responsible for five deaths, while the Eaton fire was the cause of the remaining deaths.

Officials warned that the actual death toll is likely to increase, therefore cadaver dogs are being used to go through communities that have been leveled.

LA Fire Chief 'clinging onto her job' in the face of criticism for how she handled the wildfires

According to insiders, Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley is barely hanging on to her position after bidding farewell to her employees and attending a meeting with the mayor.

The fire chief was sacked, according to a source who first told DailyMail.com on Friday afternoon. However, the mayor's office informed ABC7 Crowley that she was still employed.

Without mentioning whether Crowley kept her job, the office's official response to the outlet stated that the two "met."

According to CNN, an 85-year-old woman who was told to evacuate but wanted to remain with her pets was one of the fatalities.

On Wednesday, her body was found in her vehicle.

Over 53,000 people have signed a petition demanding that LA Mayor Karen Bass quit.

In just three days, over 53,000 people have signed a petition calling for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to resign "immediately."

They have been dragged over the coals for their response to the wildfires that are burning across the city right now, and Bass is one of them.

The reasons why California and Los Angeles officials did not prepare for the catastrophe despite having plenty of notice of the impending wind are becoming more questioned.

From vacant fire hydrants to a shortage of firemen and empty reservoirs in the center of the fires, Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Bass have come under scrutiny for their handling of the crisis.
